Experience and Responsibilities

Alexander is a Certified Public Accountant with over twenty years of public accounting experience with include, the last fifteen years as a partner at Cruden & Company.  He previously worked at two other public accounting firms in the Albany area and has taught accounting at Siena College.

Alex is responsible for the firm's day to day operations including client services, quality control, firm administration and staff hiring and development.

Experience and Responsibilities

Aanen is a Certified Public Accountant with over forty years of public accounting experience which include 35 years as a partner in Nelsen & Nelsen, CPA’s and 5 years as a self-employed practitioner. Aanen joined Cruden & Company in January 2017.

Craig joined Cruden & Company in June 2009 as a staff accountant.

Craig’s primary responsibilities include work on various audit, review and compilation engagements.  He also assists in preparation of individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns and not-for-profit information returns.

Interests outside the office include spending time with family and friends, attending sporting events, and traveling.

Experience and Responsibilities

Frank joined Cruden & Company in August 2005 as a staff assistant.

Frank assists in the preparation of individual and trust tax returns, client assistance with daily activities, and various business filings. His  responsibilities include collection and analysis of internal data needed in the management of the firm. He also works on utilizing the Internet for client communication and document delivery, and is involved with the firm’s project management system.

His previous experience includes product development and marketing at the IBM Corporation.

Interests outside of work include enjoying the music and cultural attractions of the capital district and Berkshires, all-too-infrequent sailing and canoeing outings, volunteer work for AARP TaxAide, and the time he gets to spend with his wife, children, and friends.


Alexander W. Cruden Jr., CPA (1933-2020)

Experience and Responsibilities

Alexander Cruden was a highly respected member of the community. He was a 40+ year member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Alexander’s focus was to provide clients with overall business consulting services in many areas including tax planning and compliance, business merger and expansion, governmental services, bank financing, and compensation issues. He worked with many firm clients for long periods of time, in some instances for more that thirty years.

His clients benefited from his expertise in audit services, his ability to analyze complicated tax and accounting matters, his proficiency in many industries such as automotive, broadcasting, retail, manufacturing, not-for-profit organizations and harness racing, and his extensive knowledge of the Internal Revenue code.

His responsibilities also included overseeing of the firm's computer network and software used to promote efficiency and to improve quality of service to the firm's clients. He was responsible for the purchasing and upgrading of all firm computer hardware.

Alexander was a professor of Accounting at Siena College where he taught various tax, accounting and computer courses from 1963 until his retirement from teaching in 1995.

Alexander W. Cruden Jr. started Alexander W. Cruden & Co. in 1982, which became Cruden & Company, CPA’s PLLC in 2018. He began his accounting career at Walquist and Renodin, CPAs in Albany, New York and was named Partner in that firm in 1978.
